WMC's Advent Giving Project this year is personal care kits for Str8 UP. In Saskatoon, Str8 UP “assists individuals in mastering their own destiny in liberating themselves from gangs and criminal street lifestyles.” This includes work in community and correctional outreach, job and life skills training, parenting and family development, and community awareness and understanding. A specific need in this season is personal care kits for clients that are entering into a 30 day treatment facility, as they are often coming from prison or homelessness.

Throughout December, WMC is collecting the items below to put together care packages. If you’d like to contribute financially, you can make a cheque out to Wildwood Mennonite Church with “Str8 UP project” in the memo, and we’ll use those donations to complete as many kits as we can.

Personal Care Kit items needed:

  • housecoat and slippers
  • toiletries including soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. (alcohol free)
  • lotion
  • laundry soap and softener/dryer sheets for (4) four weeks
  • calling cards for use in pay phones 
  • writing materials, ie. notebooks, binder, pens, pencils, and highlighter 
  • crocs / slip on sandals for wearing in the shower
  • dental floss 
  • cigarettes
  • lighter
  • feminine hygiene products 
  • women’s cosmetics
